Dean Allen

Each time I’ve noted the existence of this site, I feel a bit guilty, as if I were trying to capitalize on the good name of Dean Allen, blogger extraordinaire, proprietor of Textism, and creator of the Textile syntax. Anything along those lines, though, was not intentional but subliminal.

When I registered textivism.com, I was trying to come up with a name that captured some of my history and talents and that wasn’t already claimed. (To me, textivism suggests writing and activism, among other more nebulous things.) After I started printing business cards and tinkering with a placeholder site design, I remembered Mr. Allen’s site, which I frequented before he took it offline. I was already becoming enamored with the site name. Rather than brainstorm a new name, I’ve come to the conclusion that this “imitation” is intended merely as flattery.

I’m in the process of tweaking the comments system for here and my blog, but if for whatever reason you have something to say about the site name (or anything else, for that matter!), don’t hesitate to contact me.
